Read MoreMana Rangatahi was a programme my 2 nieces, year 7 and 8 at the time, took part in. Both girls benefited greatly from the programme as it allowed some time outside of school for them to participate in interactive activities and meet new people. This encouraged confidence building and a chance for them to break out of their comfort zones. They both thoroughly enjoyed their time in the programme and didn't want it to end.
Talking Matters was a journey I took with my 2year old. It helped me to interact more and keep the connection strong with my daughter after giving birth to her baby sister. It was also a chance for the whole Whānau in the house to make a conscious effort to speak more to the younger ones, which consequently led to my daughter's vocab increasing and her ability to express herself was much clearer.
What I liked about Building Awesome Whānau was using the tools to help better my communication with my family. Three things I took back with me from the program was to listen more and be there for my family using the right words to talk to my kids.
My challenge is not been able to come to the classes when my kids are unwell.
I felt that the Building Awesome Whānau program helped refresh my parenting skills it helped me build confidence and reminding me that I am a good parent my outcome is as a mother of nine kids I learn different tools and things about parenting and it's good to learn different things from other mum's and dad's in the group.
I got the confidence to go out there and look for work and to do my license. I recommend these programs to everyone who needs the tools to help themselves as well as family.
I felt motivated to do other programs and build trust with certain people I got different ideas for communication with my kids I'm more outgoing and more giving I feel like it's programs like these helped me not relapse to the old me.
Having done the Anger Management Programme through Glen Innes Family Centre 4 years ago has helped me in dealing with my anger issues.
It has given me tools that has helped me in dealing with problem solving without lashing out so quickly. I truly believe that, still to this day I am still using these tools.
Thank you to the facilitators and Glen Innes Family Centre for the time and effort in teaching me how to deal with anger issues.
